Construction Claim Specialist, Toronto, ON (Hybrid)Â
About the Role
As a construction claim specialist, you will play a crucial role in our consulting team, focusing on effectively managing construction claims and disputes. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing complex contractual and technical documents, investigating claim issues, and providing expert advice on the resolution of disputes. Your expertise in contract interpretation, quantum analysis, dispute resolution strategies, and relevant industry regulations will be instrumental in preparing and presenting strong arguments to support our clients’ claims. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with project teams and legal partners to gather evidence and develop negotiation or litigation strategies.
Core Duties
- Conduct contract interpretation to identify potential claim issues and contractual obligations in liaison with the client input. Investigate and gather evidence to support claims, including reviewing project documentation, correspondence, and relevant records.
- EOT Claims: Review construction baseline schedule, identify delay events, apply relevant delay analysis methodology (TIM, Windows… Analysis) to assess the impact of project delays on the project baseline schedule.
- Disruption Claims: define the impact of loss productivity on the impacted items and calculate the loss cost associated with the disrupted events/activities.
- Acceleration Claim: Apply relevant methodology to calculate the impact of acceleration on certain activities from schedule and cost perspectives.
- Conducting a thorough quantum analysis to evaluate and assess the monetary impact of any types of construction claim. This process involves analyzing and quantifying the costs, damages, or losses incurred as a result of a specific event or circumstance on the project.
- Collaborate with project teams, legal professionals, and experts to develop negotiation or litigation strategies and provide expert advice and recommendations on claim resolution strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive claim reports, narratives and documentation, including claim executive summary, detailed quantum analysis, schedule analysis, supporting evidence and correspondences and any relevant chart or s-curve to support the calculations.
Requirements
- Successful completion of post-secondary education from an accredited university in the field of construction management, civil engineering, quantity surveying or other relevant programs.
- Five to Eight years of practical experience in construction filed specifying in contract and claim management role.
- Must have detailed understanding of construction sequencing and construction means and methods.
- Must have in-dept knowledge of construction cost and schedule baselining, planned value, earned value and actual cost.
- Familiar with fundamental of construction estimating including crew cost method.
- Extensive knowledge of construction contract management, CCDCs and legal terms.
- Ability to utilize Primavera (P6) software as a forensic construction scheduler.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Being accredited by a relevant designation such as P.Eng., PQS or CFCC would consider as a strong asset.
